Orange Univega Gran Touring: Refurbished Bike Update @ Pedal Revolution
Though you wouldn’t know it now from the fresh orange paint, this bike started its life as a Univega Gran Touring sometime in the mid to late 80s. Just in time to witness the collapse of the Soviet Union and the Berlin Wall. We have completely rebuilt it into a stylish, versatile rig featuring a simple and elegant single chainring, 7-speed indexed bar end shifting, and a new wheelset with sealed bearing hubs.
The Gran Touring frameset features cantilever brake mounts on the fork and rear seat stays, but they are positioned much closer to each other than the mounts on more modern frames. Fortunately, Dia-Compe makes a model of caliper that works well in this application; the new Gran Compe calipers that were installed provide excellent stopping power.
Like many of our refurbished road bikes, this Univega has Panaracer Pasela tires and a Soma Highway One bar in the 42mm width. It’s got a nice curve to it and doesn’t put your hands too far forward. You’ll also notice that the single bar-end shifter cable has been routed underneath the bar tape, creating a good clean look as well as providing plenty of space for a handlebar bag or other accessories. A Shimano 105 derailleur services the 7-speed 13/28T freewheel, providing a good gear range for most city riding. Rounding out the build is a Brooks Imperial saddle. Come in and check it out today!
